    Caribbean action

Brown posts fast 10 seconds at T&T meet

    Paul Burrowes

    Thursday, April 02, 2009

The 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) champion, Xavier Brown of Racers Track Club, clocked a hand-time 10.0 seconds to win the 100 metres at a meet in Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad & Tobago last weekend.

    BROWN... has personal best 10.34secs
He was given the nod over Trinidadian Keston Bledman, a World Youth Championship bronze medallist, who also ran 10 seconds.

Ghanian Aziz Zakari, World Championships and Commonwealth Games finalist, was third in 10.3 seconds. (BACK FROM A BAN. KK)

His coach Glen Mills, now doing duties at the Boys and the Girls Championships, said it was "unfortunate that they didn't have the proper equipment since hand-times are not legally recognised".

The 26-year-old Brown, still in Trinidad, has a personal best 10.34 seconds (-1.6m/s) achieved in Spanish Town on June 4, 2006.

He handed over the baton to triple world record holder Usain Bolt when Racers won the 4x100m relay in a world-leading 38.10 seconds at the Gibson Relays in Kingston on February 28.
Brown ran a personal-best 20.48 seconds in the 200m at the National Championships last year to place sixth, and was also sixth at the Central American and Caribbean Games 200m final in a time of 20.88 seconds.

Lerone Clarke, Brown, Herbert McGregor and Carl Barrett ensured Jamaica got the bronze in the 4x100m relay also at the 2006 CAG.

Brown's Racers teammate Yohan Blake, the 2006 World Junior Championship bronze medallist, ran the fastest time in the world this year with a personal best 10.08 seconds on March 14 at the GC Foster Classics.
