    After Hours

I went for a hike yesterday and realized half way up the hill that it could be considered a workout. For an elite athlete, what activities are acceptable and what are not? Weekend parties; hikes, camping; 2hour walks in the shopping mall; 9 hour drives for weekend getaways?

My girlfriend thinks 3 hour power-shopping is extensive tempo! What gives?
No, but seriously, I try to limit the extra curricular activity that my athletes partake in. If you think about total volume (walking to class, biking home, shopping, etc) all add up in the long run. You cannot prevent them from going out for late night fun, but hopefully they can take some responsibility in deciding when to do extra activities.
