When should I begin the GPP phase?

I recently bought the GPP DVD, but havn't recieved it yet. It is on the way though. Anyway, I was curious when one should begin GPP? I am talking about next years season, 06. I will be running unattached next year, and will no longer have to deal with this high school anymore. The main meets, the last three, will be on 6/11/06, 7/11/06, and if I get that far 7/26/06. My first meets will probably begin around late April. I will probably have around 8 meets.

I was thinking about changing over to 100m and 200m this coming season, but have done the 400m the past three seasons. The coach I have had to run under the past two seasons, at this new high school, was a tirant, and had little experience, and didn't allow me to run 200m, because he found it better for me to run 400m relays, even though I could have done well in it. I will probably stick with the 400m, and finally be able to add in 200m, but running the 100m and 200m isn't out of the question right now.

Anyways, based on the fact that my first meet will be in April probably, when should I begin and end the GPP phase. I have no indoor meets. I am currently lifting weights.

Also, should I swim laps or something else before the GPP phase, because I don't have indoor meets?

This depends on the level of conditionning you have had in the past. Generally, the less experience, the longer the GPP relative to the SPP. In your case, I'd suggest starting in mid-Aug, prob for ten weeks leading to an SPP and finally a brief indoor comp period, ending mid-Jan at the latest.

Well, that is the problem, I dont have indoor meets. I may be able to do that next year when I go to college, but as of right now I dont have indoor meets. The meets that I do have will probably start in April, and the main three meets occuring in June and July. So, what should I do about that, with GPP and not having indoor meets? Should I train as if I have indoor meets, or should I do something else. Thanks for the response though, but hope you could help me with this a little more.

What state do you live in? Do you have anybody you can have "mock" competitions with?

South Carolina. I think it would be quite a challenge to get someone that is any good to have a mock meet with. I might be able to from my old school, there are some there that are pretty good, but they may also be doing other sports. So lets just assume its not possible. What should I do in that case.

Also, I may be able to talk someone to riding a bike that I could race against, and they would have to go a certain speed to get a time, but I don't think my old coach would appreciate a person riding a bike on his track. He is a nice guy, and may let me do it, but wouldn't doing that damage it in some way?

Train as if you have some comp in late Dec/ early Jan and do some time trials. This will ensure that you know where you are at that point. You can do them by yourself, but use full starting procedures etc.

And then from end of Jan a second GPP? - for how many weeks? Less than in Autumn? THX!

Alright, I will try doing something like that. How many mock competitions should I try to have during the Dec.-Jan. season?

Also, after that how long should the second GPP cycle be, if that is what should be done? 10 weeks, like the first?

Work backwards from main competition and adjust time available accordingly.

Usually and if everything has been ok, GPP II is shorter vs. GPP I

    Hope it helps!

Alright, so the second GPP should be shorter than the first. But I still am curious, how many mock meets should I make for the Nov.-Jan. indoor meet part?
